Artist Stateme
I have a degree in Mathematics, and I think in a logical and systematic way. Quilting first spoke to me with its geometric shapes, lines and repeating patterns. It was neat and orderly. Every piece of fabric has its place and all fit together in a perfect frame. To free myself from this mode of creation has been a monumental, yet worthwhile effort.
I dye my own fabric using fiber reactive dyes. I aim for bright and cheerful colors, then make gradations from an intense hue to barely white and then to a very dark shade just this side of black. I measure exactly and time accurately to ensure some control in the processes I use, but there is often the element of surprise in the end product.
