“Between the Sea of Dreams and the Land of Nightmare”
Archival print
19×13
I discovered intentional camera movement in late 2023 and felt liberated. Intentional camera movement allows me to strip away reality and show what we think we see isn’t always true. ICM takes reality and shifts it to the realm of dreams and nightmares. It puts on display the beauty of movement in stillness, and the chaos that lurks behind calm.
Dave Archibald is an emerging fine art photographer living in Middleport, New York. He has earned a Certificate in Digital Photography from Cornell University, and a BS and MS in English Education from Buffalo State College. He works as an alternative high school English and Theater teacher for Erie 1 BOCES where he has been employed for the past 20 years.Dave focuses on the realism of street photography and the impressionism of intentional camera movement. His street photography displays the lives of Western New Yorkers at work and play through
candid shots and street portraiture. In contrast to the reality of street photography, Dave’s ICM images explore the liminal spaces between dream and awakening, fantasy and reality, and stillness to movement.
His work is currently on display at the CEPA 2024 Big Orbit Show. He has previously exhibited at the Hallwalls 50th Anniversary Members’ Exhibition, Decagon Gallery, Laguna Art Gallery, and the Czurles Nelson Gallery. Dave posts his work regularly online at his Instagram, @archphotographs and at the 365 Project where he has won various monthly challenges.
