Artist Statement

I’ve dedicated my life to painting; I’ve been doing it daily for over 45 years.
I feel compelled to paint and hope to continue for as many years as I am given to live. It feels as necessary as food and sleep. It has become my reason for living. In my paintings the most ordinary moments of my most ordinary life become infused with undercurrents of poetry, romance and surrealism. I feel like this “magical” world coexists with the concrete one and access to it is a matter of simply changing my
perspective. My painting has taught me this different way of “seeing “and I hope it will also suggest to the viewer the wonder of this vision as it applies to their own life and experience. There is a technical craft to painting that has taken me years to acquire; I feel like I’m never done learning and perfecting it. I happily
embrace this life long process.
