Bowl, watercolor and ink. 11 x 14 inches. The bowl pictured in the artwork is part of the permanent collection at the Museo dell’Opera del Duomo, Orvieto, Italy. The light and the texture called my attention and I wanted to express it through ink and watercolor.

Artist StatementMy work is an exploration of media; watercolor, ink, pencil, pen, and paper. I search for answers to what could happen if I combine them? In my work I seek to explore light, shadow, textures, and story telling. But, I also want to communicate joy. The colors and their relationship to each other are a joyful interaction to create line and shape. |
Artist BiographyAlma Hoffmann is an associate professor of graphic design at the University of South Alabama. She is the author of the book Sketching as Design Thinking. In 2021 her lettering and calligraphy work was recognized as one of the best 100 artworks of the year by Creative Quarterly magazine. Her work has been published in Letters Arts Review, an international juried calligraphy publication. After her blog, Temperamental Amusing Shenanigans was syndicated by Print Magazine, she was named as one of the Creative Voices to follow in 2024 by Print Magazine. She is also a member of the editorial board at Smashing Magazine where she coaches authors on their articles and books about design, design issues, and web development. |
