Artist StatementFrom an enchanted childhood in Pasadena, California, colored by the imaginative world of my toymaker parents, I was steeped in creativity from a young age. As my father’s official toy tester and advisor, my early years were filled with wonder and novelty. This upbringing has profoundly influenced my artistic journey. I find myself perpetually immersed in a world of colors and forms. I dream in vivid hues, constantly imagining the palette I would use to paint the world around me. When I paint, I inhabit the canvas, feeling the wind, the water, the light, and the essence of each scene. Each completed piece serves as a portal back to those sensations. Though I sell mostly prints, the originals are difficult for me to part with due to my deep affinity for them. However, if you were to beg I would likely sell the work in question. My lifelong engagement with arts and crafts, nurtured by my mother, has equipped me with a diverse skill set. Inspiration flows from my environment—captured in the thousands of photos I take—each contributing elements to my work. A tree from one image, clouds from another, and the intricate textures and colors of nature form the tapestry of my creations. I studied art formally in high school and college, and yet, my fervor for experimentation in various forms of art—be it painting, crafting, furniture flipping, paint pouring, gardening, or even gourmet cooking—leads me to consider myself self-taught. My relentless curiosity and love for life fuel my creativity, earning me the title of a diversified artist. When selecting subject matter, I am drawn to pictures, dreams, and stories that resonate with me deeply. A particular scene captures my attention through color, balance, and aesthetics. Elements such as water, flowers, and the shifting moods of life continually inspire my work. My technique is uniquely characterized by the use of a large housepaint brush to create the initial composition, adding refinements afterward. This unconventional approach imbues my art with a distinctive spontaneity and depth, making each piece truly unique. |
