Scott Fryer – Vintage Locomotive

Description

Artist Statement

These four images explore the quiet persistence of the past through objects and symbols that evoke another time. A locomotive that once carried people and goods across the landscape, farm machinery that worked the land, glass insulators that helped connect a changing world, and a bronze horse illuminated to recall the warmth and romance of the Old West each offers a different passage into memory.
Some are remnants of lives once lived; another is a symbol of an era that continues to inhabit our imagination. Through light, shadow, texture, and infrared, I wanted to move beyond simply documenting these objects and instead evoke the feeling of encountering the past through memory-where details soften, time becomes less certain, and ordinary objects take on an almost dreamlike presence.
