Artist Statement
Hand embroidery is one of the oldest art forms on the planet and I admire old things, especially hand embroidered textiles. In my travels I find so much ‘women’s work’ – doilies, pillows and linens all hand stitched decades ago by an unknown woman only to be discarded years later by her family members as worthless. I
strive to repurpose these discarded, hand embroidered textiles combining them with my own hand embroidery to create art that is new, yet familiar. My goal is to highlight women’s work and the tradition of hand embroidery as
relevant and worthy.
